Jhansi sewingFamily History: Jhansi is the youngest daughter of her family. She has three married elder sisters and two elder brothers. She lost her father ten years ago and also her brothers. One brother died by cobra snake bite and another one pass away from brain fever. They have a two room asbestos house. Her mother has a job in a school as an anganwadi helper (helping pregnant mothers). She earns Rs 300/- per month, but that is not sufficient for them. They have no cultivation land and Jhansi had to take a loan from her relatives to purchase two cows. She also went to a tailor master to help in his shop so she could learn stitching.

Education: Jhansi failed her matriculation (high school exan) and did not continue her education because she believed that she was not a good student. She has always had an interest in stitching.

Jhansi was enrolled in the WISH program at Hariharananda Vocational Training Center in Oct. 2012 with full scholarship. After completing her course she was given a loan from State Bank of India and has started a tailoring shop in her village. She has a flower garden and has purchased hens. She does tailoring for her new baby boy, her husband's family and also earns money in the village. She has helped us with women's health & domestic violence booklet distribution, and she has referred several girls to our program. She will continue to be a leader for the WISH project.
