Grassroots India is pleased to announce the appointment of Soudamini Barik as Director, effective July 17, 2025.

Soudamini’s journey with Grassroots India began when she joined the organization as a student at just sixteen years of age. Having completed her matriculation, she was unable to pursue further formal education due to family medical and financial hardships. Determined to build a better future, she embraced every opportunity for growth and learning within the program.

Through dedication, perseverance, and academic excellence, Soudamini progressed from student to tailoring instructor, training more than 100 young women in vocational skills and self-reliance. She also took on key administrative and management responsibilities, becoming an integral part of the organization’s daily operations. Recognized as “Favorite Teacher” for three consecutive years, she is widely respected and deeply loved by students and staff alike.

Soudamini graduated Higher Secondary in the First Division and continues to pursue her undergraduate degree while fulfilling her leadership responsibilities. Even as Director, she remains actively involved in teaching tailoring classes and supporting management functions.

Shortly before her passing in April 2025, Dr. Nivedita Das expressed her heartfelt wish that her successor be chosen from within the W.I.S.H. Network, reflecting the true grassroots spirit of the program. In honoring that vision, the company members, alumni, and students unanimously selected Soudamini Barik in recognition of her five years of devoted service, integrity, compassion, and demonstrated leadership.

Her appointment represents both continuity and hope—a living testament to the transformative power of opportunity and education.
